Clubs & Bars
|
 |
Colourful, glitzy, endearing and sometimes down right sleazy, the Chiang Mai nightlife is pretty much impossible not to like. Banging clubs like Bubbles and Fashion House are packed to the brim with a mix of Thais and westerners, whereas ID 4 (Near Airport Plaza) and Boost (next to Chiang Mai Land), stay open into the early hours.

| Mix |
The latest spot on Nimmanhaemin, Mix has taken over from the old Drunken Flower location at the end of Soi 1. The house and garden has been completely renovated, redecorated and updated. The lovely old wooden house is now air-conditioned and decked out in decadent pleather, Moroccan chandeliers, cut glass and palettes of colour. The outdoors area is still lushly green, though more concreted up, and there are funky features such as life sized Chinese statues (pink!) and blue-lit tables. Mix is still spanking new and suffering from growing pains (no tonic, no wine, no mossie repellent, no outdoors fan), but it has potential. The Thai-Chinese-Western food is really good and very reasonably priced (80-120ish baht per dish) and the cocktails are a piddly 70 baht or so a glass and there is a big Heineken promotion going on. They open for lunch selling kao soi and kanom jeen. Mix it up. Open daily from 5 p.m. - 1 a.m. Lunch: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Dinner: 5 p.m. - 1 a.m. End of Nimmanhaemin Soi 1 Tel: 0897 577 778 |

Charoenrat Road. [5p.m. - 1 a.m.] The best music in Chiang Mai, full stop. Extremely talented Thai guitarist, Took, rocks the house nightly with versions of Hendrix, Dylan, Clapton and other classics. Has a compact, smoke-filled club felt to the place and you'll go home swearing you just watched Jimi play and begging for more. Opening bands start early and Took takes the stage around 10.30 p.m. Don't miss it. |
