Chiang Dao Nest Mini-Resort
Comment:
Stunning natural setting and amazing cuisine. The menu at this little gem just beyond Chiang Dao Cave changes daily but some favourites include pumpkin and orange soup with homemade bread, buffalo fillet served with cracked peppercorn and red wine sauce, homemade pasta/lasagna dishes and hot chocolate soufflé…well worth the one hour drive, alternatively you can just stay the night in one of their bungalows!

Farang
Comment: With branches in Bangkok and Phuket, Farang is a stylish Italian-Thai fusion venue sure to please all palettes. The menu is large, although not too big to be a nuisance, the prices are ultra reasonable and the flavours are great. They import their beef steaks from New Zealand and carve them into portions that keep the price reasonable. The Norwegian salmon salad is impressive and had a kick that also pleased Thai taste buds, and the pastas and pizzas very moreish. Anyone with a sweet tooth will be happy to finish off with a real piece of cheesecake. The staff were great, the music pleasant and food delicious.

Samsen Villa
Comment: They serve Thai and Italian cuisine from an extensive menu with enough variety to please everyone. A nice location on the Ping River and has a beautiful garden and outdoors seating area that will certainly be a nice place to relax once the rain dissipates. Some of the popular chef-recommended dishes include pumpkin soup, rocket scallops, Royal Thai style pork satay, NZ pepper steak, lamb with rosemary, foie gras with raspberry sauce, just to name a few, and topped off with the banana flambé that is prepared table-side. Their frothy cold 'freeze beer' is popular here as well. The Samsen Villa is located next to the Nakornping Bridge behind Rimping Condo where The Gondola restaurant use to be.

Terraces
Comment:
Dine by the pool at one of the most aesthetically pleasing hotels in the world with panoramic views of the Four Season’s Resort swimming pool, paddy fields and the spectacular Doi Suthep-Pui mountain ranges beyond. Western influence dominates the menu with grilled steaks and seafood dishes, but Terraces also offers a few other enticing alternatives from the imagination of Chef Giordano Faggioli, who is inspired by the region’s abundant natural produce. This is a luxury resort with extravagant prices.

The House
Comment: A first class dining experience - superb, creative cuisine, elegant setting, sophisticated service and a comprehensive beverage and wine list. Friendly host, Hans, is always happy to give recommendations to the uninitiated. There is also an authentic Tapas bar attached, which can get rocking later in the evening. Nominated by Tatler Thailand as one of Chiang Mai’s top ten restaurants. Obviously you don’t get this kind of quality cheaply, but its well worth it.
