Akaligo

Comment: Set in the magnificent reception hall of Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi, offering vistas of the raintree-canopied colonial suites from the large verandah or the chic air-conditioned interior, Akaligo offers delightful tastes of the sun-drenched Mediterranean, while being a mere stone’s throw from the Ping. Tenderloin carpaccio, Royal Project Trout, shellfish risotto, and refreshing gazpacho are some of Akaligo’s recommended dishes. Prices are not intimidating and on a par with many of Chiang Mai’s top-end Italian restaurants, while the restaurant offers a setting second to none

Casablanca Bakery

Comment: Drawn from impressions of Morocco's illustrious port city of Casabanca, this new seafood restaurant on Nimmanhaemin Road is a delightful new addition to the city dining scene. The owners tell us that their experiences in Casablanca, with its magnificent views and great food, prompted them to open this restaurant in the Moroccan style. They offer up all kinds of ocean treats such as lobsters, baked mussels with cheese, giant shrimps, fish steaks, and plenty of other, mostly western, dishes. They also serve up cocktails, wines, fruit juices and loads of bakery goodies. All dishes are in the capable hands of an experienced Thai chef who honed his cooking prowess in England.

Address: 17 Nimmanhaemin Road, Soi 7

Mi Casa

Comment: Mi Casa
Annie and Kike (she from Hong Kong and he from Spain), owners of Mi Casa, have created a homey atmosphere in a funky and fun house, with outdoors and indoors seating, serving home cooked Mediterranean food – the first in Chiang Mai. Delicious main dishes (we tried the risottos and lamb, both of which are superb), well presented as well as a tapas selection, washed down by sangria with ambiance music makes for a lovely venue to take friends and family for a mellow evening of good food, good wines and good company.

Naga

Comment: De Naga Hotel is a true gem tucked away amongst the bustling chaos of Moon Muang Road. It has stunning Lanna-inspired design and décor, from custom built door handles and floor tiles to art work adorned walls. The restaurant provides five star service, serving a delicious Mediterranean menu using top notch ingredients but offered at surprisingly low prices ranging from 150 to 450 baht per dish. Recommended dishes include the caesar salad with chicken, seared tuna with chilli relish, seafood linguine with tomato sauce and scallops with leek stuffed ravioli in a cream sauce. Dishes are served with warm fresh baked grain bread, bread sticks and herbed butter. Be sure to visit their website to see what special events are taking place over the winter months. This is a definite spot for a romantic dinner, that won't leave you feeling bust…though perhaps bursting.

Su Casa

Comment: Mi Casa, one of Chiang Mai's favourite restaurants, has produced a baby…Su Casa! This petite venue offers a more simple, streamlined, chic and casual dining experience perfect for informal get-togethers. Whether it is a quick breakfast of scrumptious eggs benedict, a light salad or pasta lunch, all day snacks or an evening sundowner accompanied by a delicious selection of tapas - oyster shooters, chorizo slices, meatballs (set of 3 @ 228B, set of 6 @ 438B) - Su Casa, is one of those places that is just perfect for most occasions. Friday and Saturday nights they offer a champagne cocktail promotion (168B/glass or 990 for 7!) and happy hours are Mondays-Fridays 5-7 p.m. for a selection of Spanish wines, sangria and cocktails. Pop into Su Casa, the greatest and latest addition to Nimmanhaemin.
